This is a unique opportunity for companies from several sectors, whose products are derived from, byproducts, sub-products and/or residues from the vine or the vinification, as well as technology and service supplier’s companies, as well as projects whose objectives are in connection to this field.

The Vine Science Award is looking for researches related to obtaining and applying wine and vine by-products.

The Vine will hold its fourth edition, as part of the 9th WBWE, which will take place on the 20th and 21st of November at the Amsterdam’s RAI.

Conceived as an area within the World Bulk Wine Exhibition, The Vine is the biggest meeting point to foster synergies among all the businesses that evolve around the vine and the wine. The Vine is a specialized area that promotes circular economy within the wine sector, in order to capitalize its resources, and to reach a sector that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

This is a unique opportunity for companies from several sectors, whose products are derived from, byproducts, sub-products and/or residues from the vine or the vinification, as well as technology and service supplier’s companies, as well as projects whose objectives are in connection to this field.

Since 2014, the World Bulk Wine Exhibition ran the area The Vine. All about the vine except wine, which focuses on promoting new wine and vine business developments.. These are companies that –thanks to their products, services and/or activities– enable to reduce the amount of residues, their treatment and reprocessing; achieve savings in energy consumption; as well as to carry out more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, among other benefits. During its third edition, The Vine hosted dozens of companies, which presented products as diverse as vine shoots, paper made with a percentage of grape seeds, cosmetics and gourmet products.

In 2017, The Vine. All about the vine, except wine wine will once again be available to food and beauty companies, alongside companies from other sectors, whose products are derived from, byproducts, sub-products and/or residues from the vine or the vinification; as well as to technology and service supplier’s companies that help developing said products and activities. The novelty, this year, is that we also want to open this area to those companies whose technologies and services can be applied to the wine sector, although they belong to other sectors; as for example: the progress in treatment of biomass in the forestry sector or waste recovery in the horticulture sector. Thanks to this broader option, The Vine aims to expand synergies further from the wine sector and to enhance itself thanks to innovations from other sectors.

THE VINE SCIENCE AWARD

The Vine considers essential to foster Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I). Therefore, since 2014, the World Bulk Wine Exhibition organizes the International Scientific Poster Competition (The Vine Science Award), bringing attention to all relevant research related to obtaining and applying wine and vine by-products, as well as ways of converting waste. From the 2017 fair, research projects, which are not directly linked to the vine residues or byproducts, but that can be applied to the wine sector, can participate in The Vine Science Award.

Any recent research carried out by universities, research centers, companies and public or private institutions can be submitted to The Vine Science Award. The best poster project, among all those admitted and exhibited during the World Bulk Wine Exhibition, will be awarded with a prize valued at €3.000, based on its originality and ground-breaking nature. If the jury deems so, alongside the winner, two “special mentions” can be awarded in order to highlight the quality of another two research projects.

The Vine will hold its fourth edition, as part of the 9th WBWE, the biggest international wine fair in terms of business transactions; which will take place on the 20th and 21st of November at the Amsterdam’s RAI. In 2016, 220 international exhibitors participated, and was visited by more than 6,000 professionals from 66 different nationalities from all over the world.
