Innovation and sustainability at the WBWE

The Vine, the biggest meeting point in order to encourage synergies between all businesses involving the grape and wine, will hold its 4th edition during the 9th World Bulk Wine Exhibition on the 20th and 21st of November in Amsterdam.

This area was conceived in 2014 in order to promote circular economy within the wine sector, sustainability and innovation. In this edition, companies from sectors as diverse as the food industry, the chemical industry, cosmetics or engineering will participate in order to show their products, services and methods, in which they use by-products from vine and wine or valorize their wine leftovers. These activities enhance the sector’s value, generate wealth and allow the volume of waste to be reduced, among other benefits.

To make it all possible, it is fundamental to invest in i+d+i. Thus, The Vine Science Award ─the competitionthat brings to light the best research studies regarding the attainment, implementation and recovery of by-products from vine and wine, as well as their leftovers─ will feature projects that have achieved success: from the obtaining energy or functional beverages to the improvement in quality of wines or building materials. The name of the winner, awarded a monetary prize of 3,000 Euros, will be revealed during the first day of the WBWE; and the award ceremony will take place in the Conference Hall, at 13:35 on Tuesday 21st. Immediately before, at 13:15, the project Ecoelectricity, that has come to generate electricity via alcoholic residues, will be presented. It will be explained by Alberto Arellano, CEO from Distilleries San Valero, where the practical work has been developed, and María Dolores Corvinos, Project Manager at Innotecno Development Ltd. (Spain).

For this edition, Alvinesa is once again the official sponsor supporting an activity such as The Vine, because it follows the same line the company has been developing since 1993: the recovery of by-products from the wine. Alvinesa is one of the main industries producing alcohol made from wine for alcoholic beverages, industrial and energy alcohols and tartaric acid, grape seed oil, anthocyanins and polyphenols as well as other grape-derivative products. With experience since 1948 in the wine producing world, it is the Europe’s number one producer, exporting to 15 countries in the 5 continents.

Additionally, The Vine collaborates once again with PTV (Plataforma Tecnológica del Vino), a forum for the different agents in the Spanish wine industry to come together and deliberate, with the aim of becoming a true business-science network of cooperation capable of defining a common Strategy in the field of R&D&I, led by business. The ultimate goal of this exchange is to boost the sector’s competitiveness, identifying the key needs and technological challenges faced and overcoming these through INNOVATIVE initiatives.

The Vine will be located in the hallway D, between the stands D12 and D34, within the 9th WBWE, the biggest international wine fair regarding business volume, held on the 20th and 21st of November at the Amsterdam’s RAI.
